Expanded pretrial services to reduce recidivism are the result of a new partnership between the court, probation department, and nonprofit BOSS.
The Alameda County Superior Court on Monday launched an expanded pretrial services program that links defendants with case managers and access to resources such as housing referrals, job opportunities, mental health support, substance abuse treatment, and anger management programs — all at no cost to participants.

“This is going to be very exciting because now you will have judges, district attorneys, public defenders, the probation department, and community organizations all working in conjunction with each other to be part of the solution,” Nichole Pettway, deputy director at BOSS, said in a statement. “It’s important for anyone released on pretrial to have a community that embraces them and buys into the notion that people can change.”
