A 50+ Year Arc of Transformation

BOSS was born out of the need to support individuals with severe and persistent mental illness displaced due to public hospital closures. Over the last five decades, our programs and services have expanded, embracing a wider scope of services for unhoused, disabled, and low-income individuals, families, and neighborhoods in Alameda County.

Our journey has been about transformation, empowerment, and helping those often marginalized. We understand that providing housing security for marginalized communities and having a stable home forms the foundation for individuals and families to thrive. BOSS solutions include:

1. Affordable Housing Options: BOSS provides emergency shelter housing programs, permanent supported housing facilities, housing navigation, landlord advocacy, move-in and rental assistance support.

2. Holistic Support: Beyond housing placements, BOSS' approach includes providing the necessary support and resources to ensure that individuals can stabilize their health, income, and social connection to retain their housing once placed.

3. Empowerment and Independence: The overarching goal of BOSS housing programs is to help individuals regain their independence and take control of their lives. We provide them with the tools they need to become self-sufficient community members.

As we reflect on our 50+ year journey, it's clear that BOSS has evolved far beyond its initial mission. We've become architects of change, crafting solutions that transcend homelessness, poverty, and disability. Our legacy is transformation, empowerment, and a steadfast commitment to social justice.

Looking ahead, our commitment to creating lasting change remains unwavering. The journey towards a society free from homelessness and poverty is ongoing, and we invite you to be an integral part of this transformative movement.
