BOSS Wins Big at the 2022 East Bay Innovation Awards

Updated: Aug 20, 2022

On August 4, 2022, BOSS joined a distinguished group of approximately 200 businesses that have been honored during the ten years that East Bay Economic Development Alliance (EDA) has hosted the East Bay Innovation Awards - winning the "Community Impact Award".

The 2022 East Bay Innovation Awards, an event honoring commercial and civic entrepreneurs and leaders of innovative firms and organizations in our region, drew more than 400 attendees to the Fox Theater in downtown Oakland.

We are extremely innovative. The essence of our work is centered on a holistic care management model administered through a healing justice lens - BOSS

BOSS was recognized for the range of programs and services offered to help justice-involved people reintegrate into the community, find permanent homes, reconnect with family, and form healthier relationships.

BOSS provides solutions to mass homelessness, mass incarceration, and community violence — including housing and innovative support service solutions for people in need right now, as well as civic engagement and policy solutions to address the root causes of systemic inequity stemming from racially biased systems/policies.

The BOSS model is intentionally designed and tailored to meet the needs of the people where they are by centering the voice of the community's most impacted in the development and delivery of services - BOSS

Our innovative support services include Neighborhood Impact Hubs and the Women & Children's Reentry Campus housing program in East Oakland.

The WCRC is a program run exclusively by women. It offers interim housing and onsite services for justice involved women and women with their children who are returning home. The program helps these women reintegrate into the community, transition into stable housing, reunify with family and attain pro-social relationships.

BOSS' Neighborhood Impact Hubs are located in corridors of concentrated poverty, crime/gang activity, and incarceration: they are designed to overcome these inequities by creating centers of community, opportunity, cultural celebration, and empowerment right where people live.

Thank you, East Bay Economic Development Alliance, for this recognition ~ and congratulations to all of the Innovators and @EastBayEDA Innovation Awards finalists.

We are stronger together - EAST BAY STAND UP!

BOSS programs are innovative, based in evidence-based practices and proven methodologies, and emphasize lived experience: across BOSS over 70% of staff (90% in reentry programs) have personal experience with the same issues faced by current participants.
