The Justice Department announced last week that it would terminate $811M in grants. Groups in Oakland stand to lose millions.

There are a lot of folks walking around with this trauma in their lives and not having an opportunity to work through it. Donald Frazier | BOSS CEO
The U.S. Department of Justice has announced the termination of $811 million in grants nationwide, impacting numerous community organizations in Oakland and Alameda County. Among those affected is Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS), led by our CEO, Donald Frazier. BOSS is set to lose a $641,050 grant designated for mental health services at its new trauma recovery center in Deep East Oakland.
Donald Frazier expressed deep concern over the decision, highlighting the critical role these funds play in supporting community members affected by gun violence and trauma. He described the funding cut as a "devastating loss to the community" and an act of "policy violence." BOSS plans to appeal the decision in the coming days.
This development underscores the ongoing challenges faced by community organizations dedicated to violence prevention and support services. We remain committed to advocating for the resources necessary to continue this vital work.
