Donald Frazier, executive director of Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS), the nonprofit managing the sites, indicated that the city is behind on nearly $1 million in payments. He mentioned that if payments are further delayed, the shelters might close by the end of March.

Oakland plans to close two major homeless shelters in West Oakland by June 30, affecting approximately 70 residents. These shelters—a community cabin site and an RV-safe parking lot—were established to accommodate individuals from the former Wood Street encampment, once Northern California's largest. The city cites the expiration of land leases in December and the need for six months of cleanup as reasons for the closures.
