PRESS: Alameda County judge pleads for $3M to continue helping out-of-custody defendants
KTVU FOX 2 · September 24, 2026 | Alameda County’s presiding judge asked the Board of Supervisors to keep the court’s Pretrial Expansion Program running, with BOSS case managers providing the services. Since February, the program has connected people awaiting trial with housing, food, transit, and behavioral health support.
Court data show an 18% recidivism rate among participants, compared with more than 40% typical for this population, and court appearance rates about 50% higher. To date, 180 participants have found stable housing and 200 have enrolled in treatment.
