Black August is a sacred time of reflection and resistance, and this year, BOSS is answering the call. As we mark the 5th anniversary of our Black August Block Party, we are not just commemorating history—we are mobilizing a movement grounded in community, justice, and collective joy.
This year's theme, "Black August: A Commemoration and a Celebration—Black Resistance, Liberation & Joy Have Always Coexisted," encapsulates the essence of Black August. It acknowledges the intertwined nature of struggle and celebration, honoring the legacy of Black freedom fighters while embracing the joy and resilience that sustain our communities.
The BOSS Black August Block Party was born out of a deep respect for the legacy of Black August—a time to honor those who’ve resisted, organized, and endured. We ground this gathering in the power of art, the soul of culture, the urgency of political education, and the necessity of economic empowerment.
