Housing

In Alameda County, an estimated 6,000–8,000 people are homeless every night.

At BOSS, we agree with the United Nations that housing is a human right. Access to secure and stable accommodation is vital for people seeking to become self-sufficient. BOSS’s goal is to help homeless people move from the streets into shelters, transitional housing, and permanent homes, whatever their income or levels of disability.

Full details of our shelters and houses can be found here.

Advocacy

BOSS also advocates for the provision of affordable housing and greater tenant protection. The number of low-income adults and families in the Bay Area vastly outstrips the availability of housing to meet their needs, and the rising cost of housing makes the situation worse. BOSS campaigns for community involvement and a fairer way to treat those whose needs are not currently met.

We developed a policy document [LINK to Housing the Poor Policy Statement pdf] which discusses the issue in greater detail. If you are interested in helping us to campaign for better housing options, please also visit the website of our Community Organization Team.
